Dosage/Direction for Use
For Bowel Sterilisation: Adults: 1 g/hr for 4 hrs, and then 1 g/6 hrs for 36-72 hrs. Children and Infants: 150-250 mg/kg body weight/day in divided doses at 6-hourly intervals.
As Adjunct in the Treatment of Hepatic Coma: Adults: 8-12 g/day in divided doses.
The dose should be changed depending on the symptoms. In hunger, it should be taken with the suitable amount of lukewarm water or non-irritating drinks.
For children, it is recommended to wrap the contents of the capsule in an oblate, or to dissolve it in a small amount of lukewarm water, milk or syrup. The effects will be more definite when the administration is continued for 1-5 days after the main symptoms eg, fever, diarrhea and abdominal pain, disappear. The dose should be increased if effects are not observed within 48 hrs. The sign of effectiveness is usually observed in 1-3 days.
Patients with serious symptoms should have the IM injection of Kanamycin Sulphate Meiji at the same time.
